OLTA Organizational Assessments

Between 2006 and 2009, Orland Conservation worked with the Ontario Land Trust Alliance to conduct organizational assessments for 11 environmental groups in Ontario under OLTA’s Assessing Your Organization Program. The AYO Program assesses the ability of groups working in land conservation to operate in an ethical, legal and technically sound manner to ensure the long-term protection of land in the public interest. The AYO model is based on the Canadian Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices which are guidelines for the responsible operation of a land trust. Orland Conservation identified successes and challenges experienced by the selected non-profit organizations in areas of mission, finance, projects, operations and staff and volunteer management. Full-day assessment interviews were conducted with each organization and final reports outlining recommended priority action items were presented at the end of the study.
